Elon Musk says xAI wasn't built right the first time, and now it's being rebuilt from the foundations up. That's a huge admission in a race where public perception counts for so much. Elon Musk is completely reshaping the xAI team, and seemingly starting again. This week he hired two of Cursors big hitters in Andrew Milich and Jason Bud, apparently handing them the mission of making xAI a world leading AI coding platform. xAI has only been operating since 2023 and has been moving at a crazy pace to try and make up ground on the likes of Anthropic and OpenAI. Despite launching Grok and assembling one of the world's largest GPU clusters, it wasn't enough and Musk says the core architecture isn't where it needs to be. Musk likened the move to the early days of Tesla where the company was in trouble and needed a complete overhaul. Musk pulled through that, and Tesla became one of the most valuable car companies on Earth. Will the same playbook work for xAI?
