Tencent is about to open-source a model that generates entire 3D worlds from a single image. HY-World 2.0 doesn't make videos, it creates real, editable 3D scenes ready for game engines. One image in, a whole world out. And it's free.
This is the successor to HY-World 1.5, which already ran at 24 frames per second with long-term geometric consistency. Version 2.0 takes it further, the output isn't a flat render or a video, it's actual 3D geometry you can import, edit, and deploy. Meshes, textures, the lot.
The team is drawing a clear line between this and video generation models like Genie 3. Video models give you pixels. This gives you scenes, explorable, editable, engine-ready environments generated from a single photograph.
For game developers, architects, and anyone building virtual environments, this could collapse weeks of world-building into minutes. And the fact that Tencent is open-sourcing it means every indie studio on the planet gets access on day one.
