OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra, matching Astra at computer use for a fraction of the price. Anthropic officially files to go public and opens its books, Microsoft offers buyouts to 60,000 staff as it reshapes for AI, Cursor lets developers build agents like code, and Realbotix starts taking orders for humanoid companions. Here's today's AI news.
OpenAI has released GPT-6.1 Terra, a cheaper model built for everyday computer work. It reads what's on your screen and acts on it, clicking, typing and switching between apps to do anything from processing invoices to turning architectural drawings into 3D models. On OpenAI's own testing it scores 15 points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about a third of the cost, and matches GPT-6 Astra on computer use at around a tenth of Astra's price. At 1 dollar per million input tokens and 5 per million output, it's half the price of Sol, and it's live now in ChatGPT, Codex and the API. OpenAI rates it critical for cybersecurity risk, so it ships with the same safeguards as Astra.
Anthropic has officially filed to go public. Its S-1 with the SEC plans a Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT, and it finally opens the books. Revenue in the first half of 2026 was about 16.3 billion dollars, roughly 14 times the same period a year earlier. The headline net loss is a startling 80.7 billion dollars, but around 72 billion of that is an accounting charge tied to Anthropic's own rising valuation, not cash out the door. The filing warns that losses are expected to continue, and there's no share price or valuation in it yet.
Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to around 60,000 employees, more than a quarter of its roughly 223,000-strong workforce, as it reshapes itself for AI. The offer covers staff in the US, Canada, India and the UK, across teams including Windows, Xbox, Finance and even Copilot, while sales, marketing and data centre staff are excluded. Terms follow Microsoft's standard severance, employees have until early December to decide, and those who accept leave on December 31st. Microsoft expects fewer people to take it than its earlier retirement buyout, where more than 30 percent of those eligible accepted.
Cursor has launched its Agent SDK, which lets developers build agents the same way they build software. Each agent lives in a repository, with its instructions in a Markdown file and every tool as a TypeScript file, so you can version, review and ship it like code. You can deploy agents on Cursor's hosted infrastructure or run them on your own, and built-in evals let you test every change before it goes live, like unit tests for agents. It runs on the same harness as Cursor's own agents, such as Bugbot, and ships with templates for PR reviews and issue triage.
Realbotix has opened orders for Echo, its first commercial line of humanoid companions. There are four characters, Mila, Aria, Dave and Amar, each with its own face, voice and personality. The tabletop version, essentially a talking bust, costs 11,950 dollars, and the full-body version is 59,950, plus a monthly AI subscription from 20 dollars. They're aimed at education, therapy and, well, companionship. Production is tiny, just 225 tabletop units and 25 full-body ones, with deliveries in the second half of 2027.
